Droplet breakup in airflow with strong shear effect

The deformation and breakup of droplets in airflows is important spray atomisation processes, but the shear effect non-uniform airflow rarely reported. In this study, a flow air investigated experimentally using high-speed imaging, digital image processing, particle velocimetry. results show that with strong effect, droplet exhibits unique features due to uplift stretching produced by interaction between deformed layer. process can be divided into three stages according morphology mechanism, namely sheet breakup, swing rim stages. Theoretical analysis reveals governed transverse Rayleigh-Taylor instability. A regime map produced, transitions different regimes are obtained theoretically. liquid film during fragment size distribution after analysed quantitatively, they determined competition at affected shear. Finally, viscosity investigated, inhibits airflow.
